ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Gonjasufi - A Sufi and a Killer (2010)

Isaac Hayes (Change), The Stooges (SuzieQ), ODB's drunken singing (throughout!), late-60s psych freak-outs, Ravi Shankar, Madlib, hip-hop, blues, Mulatu Astatke (DedNd), Tom Waits, Flying Lotus, Captain Beefheart, 70s funk, Massive Attack.

Above was just a list of a few things that sprung to mind when I listened to in bed last night, which by the way is a perfect place to listen to an album like this. Another thing that struck me, is that I can't recall an album that encompasses every genre quite like this one does. It's almost like a history lesson in music, played by a guy in love with music. It's quite refreshing to hear somebody blend so many genres and still make a cohesive album, all blended together in a haze of smoke. If you like any of the above genres or artists then be sure to give this one a listen!
