Just came across these guys and they sound like my cup of tea. They also recently did a cover of a Gillian Welch song (who I like very much) with The Tallest Man On Earth, who I love, so it's hard not to like them!

My Autumn's Done Come
Well it feels like autumn has officially arrived here. It's windier, wetter, darker and cooler than it has been in months and I'm already looking forward to the winter! They're going to show the BBC's Yellowstone documentary on TV tonight and even though I own the DVD, it's one of those things that reminds me of this time of year and I can't wait to watch it again! It's also approaching moose hunting season here and I went on my first hunt last year and look forward to this year's hunt! Whilst we didn't kill anything last year during my two days, we did see a family of moose in the distance and it was a beautiful moment. The silence of the woods at this time of year just can't be beaten and the autumnal colours provide a perfect backdrop.

NEW DISCOVERY: Nathaniel Rateliff
Aquarium Drunkard never fail to bring awesome people I've never heard of to my attention and after watching the video they just posted of Nathaniel Rateliff and friends performing it doesn't look like they're going to stop anytime soon. This song is apparently unreleased, but Nathaniel recently released 'In Memory of Loss', which has been compared to the work of Cave, Young, Diamond and Parsons by one reviewer. He apparently went by the name The Wheel before and is also in Born in the Flood. He's also currently touring the US with MWW Favourite The Tallest Man on Earth. FESTIVAL: Way Out West, Gothenburg, Sweden 12th-14th August 2010
I'm still in my first year living in Sweden and have always wanted to go to 'Way Out West' and this year is no exception after seeing the current confirmed artists include Beach House, GIRLS, Local Natives, Real Estate, M.I.A., Pavement, Q-Tip, The Tallest Man On Earth, the National and more! What's more, I just read that they're trying to (I think I did anyway!) get The Felice Brothers booked too! NOW THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING!

Joanna Newsom currently sits in pole position and I must confess I've not got round to hearing it yet! It's a pretty damn good start to the year if you ask me and The Tallest Man On Earth has entered at number 6 and I've just got the album and can't wait to hear it! His last effort was one of my favourite albums of recent times, so this one has a lot to live up to! But take a look at the list yourself and check out some of the stuff you've not heard!

The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt (2010)
The Tallest Man On Earth has recently signed to Dead Oceans, where they have just announced the upcoming release of his new album:

When fans lined up to see the sold-out Bon Iver performances at New York City’s Town Hall in late 2008, few of them went with any expectations of the opening act. But the audience that night, and on every other night of Bon Iver’s tour that December, was introduced to something special, something unforgettable: THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH. This was the first of several tours for the Tallest Man on Earth (aka Kristian Matsson), with obsessive crowds growing each step of the way.
Earlier in the year, The Tallest Man on Earth had released one of 2008’s most powerful records, one that Pitchfork praised, calling Matsson “a natural-born folksinger, earnest, clever, and comforting.” Shallow Grave could not have been more simple, just Matsson’s commanding vocals with an acoustic guitar or banjo, recorded at his home in Dalarna, Sweden. Although the album was released on the Swedish label Gravitation without the help of widespread distribution, the story of The Tallest Man on Earth spread far and wide through word of mouth.

I absolutely loved his first album and I'm sure the new album won't disappoint! The first single is going to be 'King of Spain', which he has been playing live for a year or so and I can't wait to hear the rest of it! The Tallest Man on Earth
After listening to Frank Fairfield's album during the course of this afternoon, his sound reminded me of a Swedish folk guitarist who goes by the name The Tallest Man on Earth. Whilst not quite as traditional as Frank Fairfield, Kristian Matsson is a singer-songwriter in a Dylanesque way. He also kinda reminds me of A.A. Bondy and has toured with Bon Iver (a perfect companion/compliment for his music). What struck me most when I saw him on You Tube was his voice and at first I thought his voice was almost a little too powerful for his acoustic guitar. It was almost like when I first heard Dylan and found it hard to get into him due to his unusual singing voice. Anyway, I got hold of his debut album, 'Shallow Grave', and it became one of my favourites of 2008. And like with Dylan, his voice became one of his strongest qualities and gives the songs extra life. The album is full of great songs and I eagerly anticipate his follow-up!
