I just came across this rare footage from the 'Love In Festival' from 1967. The footage has a really great dreamy feel to it. The clip focuses mainly on the audience, with the camera effortlessly floating from person to person. There's also some pretty cool footage of The Animals performing a segment of 'White Rabbit' and what sounds like 'Toacco Road.' The festival's line-up included Pink Floyd, The Animals, Creation, Arthur Brown and Tomorrow.
White Fence is Tim Presley. He's singer for Darker My Love, has played in The Fall (on 'Reformation') and is also a member of one of my favourite bands of the moment, The Strange Boys (although he's only credited on their Myspace for vocals and laughs). The album has been compared to those of a lot of my favourites from the 60s, including Love, The Byrds, Skip Spence, Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, The Who etc. You get the picture! The comparisons aren't too far off the mark either and makes this a must for any fans of said bands!

Although I now reside in Sweden, I came across this Swedish band today over on Pitchfork and the review completely sold them to me, mentioning Nick Drake, the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, The Flaming Lips and fellow Swede's Dungen in the same review. I immediately found the album in Spotify and it was one of the most pleasant listens I've had in a while. The album opens up with an amped up take on Fleetwood Mac's instrumental, 'Sunny Side of Heaven', this time complete with lyrics. Second track 'Dragon' sounds like Nick Drake and Belle & Seastian in equal measures, as does 'Beach House'. That's not to say there's no variation on the album, as 'Beach House' explodes into a fuzzed out stoner rock style haze of guitars, druggy vocals and thundering drums for the 7 minute epic, 'Code II'. The rest of the album pans out in varying fashion, and whilst it's largely an album of laid back, airy folk-rock (see The Byrds/CSNY style 'Deportation Day') it never gets boring, as songs shift effortlessly between grooves like an Albatross soaring high over the ocean. It sounds like a perfect summer album. All I need now is some sun to put it to the test...
Ty Segall is back already with a joint LP with Mikal Cronin (Okie Dokie, Charlie and the Moonhearts, who I must confess is new to me. The LP is called 'Reverse Shark Attack' and includes a cover of Pink Floyd's 'Take up Thy Stethoscope and Walk'. It has been described by the band's label as "a 10-track delight of psychedelic garage jams" and from what I've heard so far, it shouldn't disappoint!
