Ahmad Jamal (born July 2, 1930) is an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, teacher, and jazz theoretician. According to Stanley Crouch, Jamal is second in importance in the development of jazz after 1945 only to Charlie Parker. For five decades, he has been one of the most successful small-group leaders in jazz.

Panda Bear - TOMBOY/Slow Motion 7"

Panda Bear's first single off his upcoming album, 'TOMBOY', will be the first of several singles released on different labels before the album's release . The A-side, 'TOMBOY', is a murky, fairly repetitive affair with Panda Bear's familiar vocals floating in and out of the mix, whilst the B-side 'Slow Motion' is a twisted hip-hop sounding track complete with looped drum beat ((not too far off that used in Nas' 'I Can') and warped guitars and repeated, mantra like vocals. All it's missing is a guest spot from Gza.

COMING SOON: Capone-N-Noreaga - The War Report 2: Report The War

I remember getting a copy of  'The War Report' off a friend, complete with covers, back in 1997. I was 14years old. Now CNN are back with the sequel, 'The War Report 2: Report The War', which will be released on July the 13th. The album features guests including Busta Rhymes, Raekwon, The L.O.X., Nas and Faith Evans and the the few tracks I've heard off it so far sound pretty promising. Raekwon's follow-up to OB4CL last year set the bar high for sequels, but I'm not setting the bar too high for this one. After a fairly slow start to the year, any half decent hip-hop is more than welcome.

Nas - Nasty Nas Demo Tape (1991)

As you may have noticed, I've been listening to a lot of hip-hop recently and it's been nice reminiscing and revisiting old favourites, as well as discovering new stuff. Joining the list of new stuff is Nas' demo tape from 1991, when he went by the name Nasty Nas. I own every Nas album and he's always been one of my favourite rappers and artists, but although I'd heard of this before, I'd never got round to hearing it. I came across it over on Kevin Nottingham's awesome blog and it has some really great tracks on it, such as 'Life Is Like a Dice Game' and the classic 'Deja Vu', which has achieved somewhat of a cult status over the years. All of the songs are on You Tube, if you'd prefer not to download it, but the download is available on Kevin Nottingham's if you're interested.
